Martin, Strom Earn All-Big 12 Honors

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Gymnastics' Abigayle Martin and Emma Strom have been selected for All-Big 12 Teams, announced by the conference Wednesday. 
 
Martin is earning her second All-Big 12 all-around team honor and first as a member of the beam team. This is Strom's first All-Big 12 honor of her career. The duo was tabbed to the preseason All-Big 12 team with Martin earning selections to the vault, beam, and all-around teams and Strom being picked for the floor team.

Martin was named to the All-Big 12 balance beam and all-around teams. The junior finished the regular season with a 9.890 NQS on beam and a 39.305 NQS in the all-around. Martin scored above a 9.85 on beam in eight meets and earned 9.90 or higher on the event in four consecutive meets. She tied her career best of 9.925 on beam against Utah. In the all-around, she tied her career high of 39.450 against Towson and earned above a 39.300 in four meets. During the season, Martin won the event title on beam three times and won the all-around title four times. She ranks sixth in the Big 12 on beam and third in the all-around.

Strom earned All-Big 12 accolades on floor after finishing the regular season with a 9.925 NQS on the event. The senior specialist earned scores of 9.90 or higher in eight meets this season and posted a 9.925 or higher in five meets. Strom set a career high of 9.95 on floor at the Metroplex Challenge and tied the score in Arizona's win over Arizona State. She won the floor title in five meets this season and her 9.925 NQS ranks third in the Big 12 and 20th nationally.

The All-Big 12 teams were determined by the top six NQS scores on each event. The All-Freshman team was voted on by each head coach in the conference. 

Martin and Strom will lead the GymCats to West Valley City, Utah for the Big 12 Championships on Saturday, March 21. Arizona will compete in Session 2 of the meet which is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. MST and will be televised on ESPNU. The evening session will include the top four teams in the Big 12 – Arizona, BYU, Denver, and Utah.
