TUCSON, Ariz.- Arizona secured two home wins at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center over the weekend, defeating Iowa State 4-2 on Friday before sweeping Kansas 4-0 on Sunday.
Arizona opened the weekend by securing the doubles point against Iowa State.
Josie Usereau and
Maria Garcia defeated Camblor/Shulzhenko (ISU) 7-5 on court two, while
Tanvi Narendran and
Martyna Ostrzygalo clinched the point on court three with a 7-6 (8-6) victory to give the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead.
In singles, Arizona won four matches to secure the 4-2 victory. Usereau was first off the court with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Narker (ISU) on court two to give Arizona a 2-0 lead. Garcia followed with a 2-6, 6-0, 6-4 comeback win against De La Paz Alberto (ISU) on court five, and
Zoya Chulak added a 6-2, 6-2 win over San Martin (ISU) on court six to extend the lead to 3-1. Ostrzygalo clinched the victory on court one, defeating No. 83 Vilar (ISU) 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 to seal the match for the Wildcats.
Arizona carried that momentum into Sunday's matchup against Kansas, earning a 4-0 sweep. The Wildcats claimed the doubles point with a 6-1 win from Narendran and Ostrzygalo over Ben Ezzedine/Kubo (KU) on court three. Usereau and Garcia followed with a 6-4 victory against van Vuuren/McCarty (KU) on court two. Chulak and Ciara Moore's match against Arystanbekova/Putilina (KU) on court one was left unfinished at 4-5.
In singles, Usereau extended Arizona's lead to 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over van Vuuren (KU) on court two. Chulak followed on court six, defeating Putilina (KU) 6-4, 6-3 to make it 3-0. Ostrzygalo clinched the match on court one with a 6-3, 6-4 win over No. 53 Kubo (KU), securing the 4-0 sweep.
Arizona will look to carry its momentum into its final home weekend, returning to LaNelle Robson Tennis Center for matches on Friday and Sunday, with Sunday's match marking Senior Day.
