TUCSON, Ariz. – Following a standout week in which she earned two ranked singles victories to help lead Arizona to road wins at Iowa State and No. 34 Kansas, Martyna Ostrzygalo has been named the Big 12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
The honor marks the first conference Player of the Week recognition of Ostrzygalo's career.
Ostrzygalo delivered a dominant week for the Wildcats, posting two singles wins over ranked opponents while also going 1-1 in doubles action. She opened the week with a clutch three-set victory on Court 1 over No. 82 Maria De Las Paz Alberto, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5, clinching Arizona's 4-3 win over Iowa State.
Two days later, Ostrzygalo teamed with Tanvi Narendran to secure a doubles point, before earning a straight-sets singles win over No. 53 Kyoka Kubo, 6-3, 6-4, as Arizona swept Kansas on the road.
The Wildcats improved to 15-8 overall and 6-3 in Big 12 play with the two victories.
Arizona returns to action on Friday when it hosts Colorado at 12 p.m.
