With round one in the books at the Western Intercollegiate, the Arizona Wildcats men's golf find themselves in a fourth position after an opening round of 4-under par. They are just three shots behind first place.
Leading the way for Arizona is
Taishi Moto, who sits atop the leaderboard at 5-under par after an impressive 65. Moto was consistent throughout the day, posting a clean 34 on the front nine and an even better 31 on the back, as he birdied five of the last eight holes.
Zach Pollo and
Tianyi Xiong both turned in even-par rounds of 70 and are currently tied for 28th.
Connor Hamm and
Filip Jakubcik each carded rounds of 71 (+1) and sit tied for 36th. Jakubcik, the defending champion, battled through an up-and-down round that included a mix of birdies and remains well within reach heading into the next round. Rounding out the lineup,
William Wistrand posted a 73 (+3) and is tied for 53rd after a challenging back nine.
Tee times for the Wildcats continue tomorrow at 8:36am as they look to position themselves for a strong finish at one of college golf's premier events.
