PROVO, Utah.- Arizona capped off its final Big 12 road weekend in dominant fashion, earning a pair of wins with a 4-2 victory over No. 26 Utah on Thursday before sweeping No. 27 BYU, 4-0, on Saturday. With the two wins, the Wildcats finish conference play at 10 wins, setting a new program record for most Big 12 victories in a single season and surpassing last year's mark of eight.
Arizona opened the weekend in Salt Lake City, dropping the doubles point to Utah after losses on courts one and two, as the Utes took an early 1-0 lead.
In singles, the Wildcats responded with a strong showing, winning four completed matches to secure the 4-2 victory. Josie Usereau quickly evened the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Emmie Moore on court two, before Maria Garcia gave Arizona its first lead with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Hayley Roberts on court five. Utah answered on court one to even the match, but Zoya Chulak regained the advantage for the Wildcats with a 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 comeback win on court six. Tanvi Narendran then sealed the victory on court four, defeating Emma Valletta 6-3, 4-6, 6-0.
Arizona carried that momentum into Saturday's matchup at BYU, where the Wildcats delivered a 4-0 sweep.
In doubles, Arizona secured the point with wins on courts two and three. Josie Usereau and Maria Garcia picked up a tight 7-6 (7-2) victory over Bergeson/Chen (BYU) on court two, before Tanvi Narendran and Zoya Chulak sealed the point with a 6-2 win against Lewis/Tan (BYU) on court three.
In singles, Arizona dominated early courts to clinch the match. Ciara Moore put Arizona ahead 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Tan (BYU) on court three. Josie Usereau followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Kovick (BYU) on court two, before Martyna Ostrzygalo secured the sweep on court one, defeating Levelston (BYU) 6-1, 7-5. Three additional matches went unfinished.
With conference play complete, Arizona now turns its focus to the postseason, traveling to Orlando, Florida for the Big 12 Championships.
