ORLANDO, Fla. - The No. 26 Arizona women's tennis team earned a clutch 4-2 victory over No. 36 Kansas Thursday evening in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament, advancing to the Semifinals.
Arizona will face the winner of No. 20 UCF and No. 37 BYU on Friday at 3 p.m. (MST).
The Cats struck first in the match, securing the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead over the Jayhawks. Tanvi Narendran and Martyna Ostrzygalo set the tone with an exceptional performance on Court 3, collecting a commanding 6-0 victory over Meg McCarty and Meriem Ben Ezzedine. After a loss on Court 1, Maria Garcia and Josie Usereau clinched the point for Arizona with a 6-3 victory over the No. 64 ranked duo of Kyoka Kubo and He Janse van Vuuren.
Kansas evened the match at one point apiece after earning a singles victory on Court 1; but, Arizona answered quickly, as Narendran delivered a dominant performance on Court 4, defeating Ben Ezzedine 6-1, 6-1 to restore the lead.
The Jayhawks tied the match again with a win on Court 5 before Arizona responded once more. Usereau picked up a crucial victory on Court 2, taking down van Vuuren 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
Moore then sealed the match with a win on Court 3, claiming a hard-fought 7-6 (10-8), 6-3 victory over Yerke Arystanbejova.
The victory marked Arizona's 10th consecutive win, as the Wildcats will look to carry that momentum into Friday's semifinal matchup.
