TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona will host and compete in the Big 12 Beach Volleyball Championship Apr. 23-24. The Wildcats will compete on Thursday as the #6 seed and face TCU and Arizona St.
No. 20 Arizona is coming off a strong weekend at the NOLA Classic winning all four of their matches. The Wildcats beat hosting Tulane, 3-2, to open the tournament before sweeping the next three matches of the weekend against Louisiana Monroe, New Orleans and Florida International.
Arizona will have rematches against both TCU and ASU in pool play of the Big 12 Championship. Following the pool play round on Thursday the Cats will then be re-seeded for Day 2 which will feature a single-elimination bracket.
Big 12 Beach Volleyball Championship Match Ups
TCU – Arizona is 4-3 in the all-time series against the Horned Frogs. Arizona currently faces a three-game losing streak against TCU. The most recent matchup between the teams came in the opening weekend of the season where TCU came out on top 4-1.
Arizona St. – Arizona is 17-15 against the Sun Devils all time. The Cats are currently on a 7-game losing streak with three of those losses coming this season. Arizona will look for a big win in this ranked matchup in pool play of the Big 12 Championship.
Noting the Wildcats
Regan Holmer and Carlie Cisneros
Holmer and Cisneros have played as the #1 pair all season and have gone 20-10. They have picked up ranked wins against #13 GCU, #19 Georgia State and #18 South Carolina. The pair went 3-1 at the NOLA Classic with their one loss coming to Tulane. Holmer and Cisneros will look to continue their success as the postseason approaches.
Ashlyn Zilliken and Madeline Walker
Zilliken and Walker have gone 22-8 up to this point as the #2 pair. The pair currently has the highest win percentage for Arizona. They have picked up five ranked wins against #5 TCU, #19 Georgia State, #8 ASU, #5 Florida State and #18 South Carolina. The pair is coming off a 3-1 weekend with their lone loss coming to Tulane. Zilliken and Walker will look to continue picking up wins and be ready for the post season.
Jamie Streit and Sophia Winter
Streit and Winter are 16-9 when playing together as Arizona's #4 pair. The pair is coming off a dominant weekend going 4-0 and not dropping a single set. The duo will look to keep up their strong play at the Big 12 Championship.
