TUCSON, Ariz. - After a stellar regular season, four Arizona women's tennis players combined for five All-Big 12 honors, highlighted by Josie Usereau being named the Big 12 Scholar Athlete of the Year, the conference announced Thursday.
Usereau headlined the group with her Scholar Athlete of the Year recognition while also earning Second Team All-Big 12 Singles honors.
Leading the way in singles play, Martyna Ostrzygalo was named to the First Team All-Big 12, while Usereau added Second Team recognition.
In doubles, Usereau and Maria Garcia earned First Team All-Big 12 honors after a standout season as a pair, bringing Arizona's total to four All-Conference players and five overall honors.
Usereau put together an outstanding season both on and off the court, earning Big 12 Scholar Athlete of the Year honors while posting a 15-6 singles record. She was especially strong in conference play, going 7-2, and competed primarily in the middle of the lineup. In doubles, she teamed with Garcia to form one of Arizona's most reliable pairings, finishing with a 16-5 record.
Ostrzygalo led Arizona in singles throughout the spring, earning First Team All-Big 12 honors after compiling a 15-11 record while competing on Court 1. She delivered key performances in conference play and was a consistent presence at the top of the lineup all season.
Moore earned a spot on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team following a strong debut season, finishing with a 15-11 singles record. She made an immediate impact for the Wildcats, picking up key wins throughout the year and contributing across multiple positions in the lineup.
Garcia turned in an impressive season, posting a team-best 17-7 singles record while competing primarily on the lower courts. In doubles, she paired with Usereau to go 16-5, forming one of the top tandems in the conference and earning First Team All-Big 12 recognition.
Arizona finished the regular season 20-9 overall and 10-3 in Big 12 play, marking the most conference victories in a season in program history. The The Wildcats picked up multiple ranked victories throughout the spring and were selected to the NCAA Tournament. Arizona will face Notre Dame in Columbus, Ohio in the First Round on Saturday at 7 a.m. (MST)
