TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's tennis team is set to face No. 1 overall seed Wake Forest (33-3) in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday afternoon in Athens, Georgia. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. MST.
The Wildcats (24-4) will take on the reigning national champions with a spot in the Final Four on the line.
Arizona made history last Saturday in Tucson, defeating No. 9 Oklahoma, 4-3, to secure the program's first-ever Elite Eight appearance. Now, the Wildcats will look to continue their historic run with a victory over the Demon Deacons on Thursday afternoon.
The Wildcats are coming off an impressive Sweet 16 win over Oklahoma in which Arizona erased a 3-1 deficit to earn the comeback victory.
Four Wildcats remain ranked in the ITA singles rankings, with Jay Friend leading the way at No. 4. Filip Gustafsson checks in at No. 74, followed by Sasha Rozin at No. 98 and Zoran Ludoski at No. 105.
Friend has been remarkable all season for Arizona and is a perfect 3-0 on Court 1 during the NCAA Tournament.
Arizona also boasts three doubles teams in the ITA rankings. Gustafsson and Glib Sekachov lead the way at No. 20, followed by Friend and Rozin at No. 43 and Cole Stelse and Alejandro Arcila at No. 57.
Wake Forest enters Thursday's matchup riding an eight-match winning streak after capturing the ACC Tournament title with a 4-2 win over No. 5 Virginia.
The Demon Deacons feature five players in the ITA singles rankings and also boast the nation's No. 1-ranked doubles team.
