TUCSON, Ariz. - The historic postseason run for the University of Arizona men's tennis team came to a close Thursday afternoon as the Wildcats fell to No. 1 overall seed Wake Forest, 4-1, in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia.
Arizona caps off one of the greatest seasons in program history after making the program's first-ever NCAA Quarterfinal appearance. The Wildcats captured the Big 12 regular season title in their second year in the conference and finished the year among the nation's top teams with a 24-5 overall record.
Wake Forest claimed the doubles point with victories on courts two and one to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.
In singles play, the Demon Deacons extended their advantage with straight-set wins on courts two and five, but Arizona responded behind Alexander Rozin on court three. The sophomore delivered another standout postseason performance, defeating No. 28 Luca Pow in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, to put the Wildcats on the board and cut the deficit to 3-1.
The match came down to court six, where Alejandro Arcila battled back after dropping the second set following a dominant 6-0 opening frame. Joaquin Guilleme ultimately secured the clinching point for Wake Forest with a 0-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory.
Two additional matches went unfinished as both Jay Friend and Zoran Ludoski were locked in tightly contested battles against ranked opponents. Friend, ranked No. 4 nationally, split the opening two sets against No. 27 DK Suresh Ekambaram and led 5-3 in the third before the match was halted. Ludoski had also forced a third set on court four after winning a second-set tiebreak.
Arizona closes the 2026 campaign after rewriting the record books throughout the season, highlighted by the program's first Big 12 Regular Season Championship, first Elite Eight appearance, and one of the deepest NCAA Tournament runs in school history.
