TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona women's tennis team saw its NCAA Tournament run come to an end on Saturday morning, falling to Notre Dame, 4-3, in the first round in Columbus, Ohio.
The Wildcats finish the season 20-10 after a strong year that saw them reach the NCAA Tournament and battle through a tightly contested opening-round match.
Arizona got off to a strong start by claiming the doubles point, winning on courts one and two. Zoya Chulak and Ciara Moore opened the day with a 6-3 victory before Josie Usereau and Maria Garcia secured the point with a 6-4 win, giving the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead.
Notre Dame responded in singles, taking the first three completed matches to move in front 3-1. Martyna Ostrzygalo delivered Arizona's first singles win at No. 1, outlasting No. 70 Bianca Molnar in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, to keep the Wildcats within striking distance.
The Irish then closed out the match with wins on courts two, three, and four, but Arizona continued to fight through the final point. Zoya Chulak closed the day with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles, bringing the final margin to one.
The loss marked the end of Arizona's season, as the Wildcats finished with a record of 20-10.
