Spectacular 66 from Jakubcik Has Arizona Well-Positioned at NCAA Championship

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Arizona senior Filip Jakubcik led Arizona for the second day in a row during the second round of the NCAA Men's Golf Championship at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa on Saturday, posting a bogey-free 6-under round of 66. As a team, the Wildcats were 3-under par in round two and are now tied for sixth place at 4-under par for the tournament.

Jakubcik is 10-under overall for the tournament and sits in first place by two strokes on the individual leaderboard. He is the first 36-hole leader to reach double figures under par at the NCAA Championship since former Wildcat Ricky Barnes did it in 2001.

It marks the eighth consecutive round at or under par for Jakubcik dating back to the second round of the Big 12 Championship. In his last five rounds, Jakubcik is 25-under par.

The 30-team field will be cut to the top 15 teams after Sunday's third round, with those 15 teams then competing in the final round of stroke play on Monday. At the conclusion of play on Monday, the top eight teams will move on to the match play portion to compete for the team national championship.

Zach Pollo and William Wistrand both carded Even par round of 72 on Saturday, but took vastly different paths to get there. Pollo is Even over the two rounds and tied for 43rd while Wistrand is 3-over par through two rounds and tied for 77th.

Pollo began his second round with an eagle on his first hole, the 10th, but played the next four holes in 4-over par. He then birdied the 15th and 16th holes before closing his first nine with a bogey and double bogey on 17 and 18, respectively. As he made the turn to his back nine, he reset himself and played the final nine holes in 3-under par with three birdies and six pars.

Wistrand had a bit of an up-and-down first round on Friday, but he was much more steady on Saturday. He registered nine straight pars to begin his round before carding two birdies and two bogeys on his second nine.

Tianyi Xiong and Taishi Moto both posted rounds of 75 in round two to round out the scoring for the Wildcats. Xiong is 3-over par for the tournament and tied for 77th while Moto is 10-over par through two rounds and tied for 141st.

The Wildcats will tee off hole No. 1 at 7:25 a.m. PT on Sunday, playing alongside Virginia and Pepperdine.
