TUCSON, Ariz. - The Golf Coaches Association of America announced the full All-American teams for Division I men's golf on Wednesday and Arizona senior Zach Pollo earned Honorable Mention All-American honors.
He joins teammate and fellow senior Filip Jakubcik on the list, who was previously announced as a First Team All-American last week, giving the Wildcats two all-Americans in the same year for the first time since Nate Lashley (honorable mention) and Henry Liaw (honorable mention) in 2005.
It is the first all-American honor in Pollo's distinguished career, after he helped the Wildcats to a tie for third place at the NCAA Championship earlier this month, the best finish for the Wildcats as a team since 2004.
Pollo was named Second Team All-Big 12 this season and went on to be one of four co-medalists at the NCAA Marana Regional, where he posted a career-best round of 63 (-9) in the second round to propel the Wildcats to the team win. In the stroke play portion of the NCAA Championship, Pollo finished tied for 39th individually to help Arizona finish sixth and advance to match play for the first time in program history. In match play, Pollo secured the clinching point against Vanderbilt in the quarterfinals, where he had to win the 18th hole to force extra holes and then won on the second extra hole with a spectacular wedge shot to setup a birdie.
The native of Rocklin, California, finished the season with a scoring average of 71.00, which is ranks as the 11th-best single-season scoring average in program history.
