Arizona Men’s Golf Adds Alan Murray as Associate Head Coach

TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Men's Golf has added one of the most accomplished coaches in college golf to its staff, hiring former Washington head coach Alan Murray as associate head coach. Murray was the head coach at UW for the past 10 seasons where he built the Huskies into a consistent national contender and captured the 2022 Pac-12 Championship.

"I'm excited to join Coach Anderson and become part of the Arizona Men's Golf program," Murray said. "This is one of the premier and most respected programs in college golf, and I'm eager to get started and help build upon the great work done by Coach Anderson, Coach Walton and so many outstanding coaches before them.

I've long admired the job Jim has done here and the vision he brings to the program. The opportunity to work closely with him, learn from him and collaborate with such talented student-athletes and people across Arizona Athletics is incredibly energizing. I'm looking forward to getting to work."

During his time leading the Huskies, Murray guided the program to five NCAA Regional appearances and 12 team tournament victories while developing three All-Americans and 12 all-conference selections. His 2021-22 squad captured the Pac-12 Championship, produced RJ Manke, the league's Golfer of the Year, and earned Murray Pac-12 Coach of the Year honors.

Washington consistently competed among the nation's elite teams under Murray, spending extended stretches ranked inside the top 10 nationally and climbing as high as No. 3 in national rankings. His teams were defined by depth and consistency, regularly posting multiple top-10 finishes and recording some of the lowest scores in program history.

During the 2025-26 season, Washington finished third at the Big Ten Championship and had three players advance to the NCAA Regional in Corvallis, where two of them finished inside the Top 10 for the first time since 2015.

"We are thrilled to welcome Alan Murray to the University of Arizona. He is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in collegiate golf, with a proven track record of developing elite players and building championship-level programs.

Alan brings tremendous energy, a fresh perspective and a deep commitment to student-athlete development. His experience will elevate our program immediately as we continue to recruit, develop and compete at the highest level. We're excited to welcome him, his wife, Tisha, and their children, Mila and Max, to the Wildcat family."

Prior to Washington, Murray earned Golfweek National Coach of the Year honors in 2014 at UAB and led the Blazers to their first NCAA Regional title in 2015. After starting his coaching career in 2011 as an assistant with the Blazers, Murray was named interim head coach in 2013 and permanent head coach in 2015. He led the Blazers to an NCAA Regional appearance all three seasons as head coach and a 21st place finish at the 2014 NCAA Championship, the second-best finish in UAB history.

A native of Ireland, Murray played collegiately at Toledo (1998-2002), where he earned All-MAC honors and helped lead the Rockets to a conference championship in 2002. He would go on to compete on the European Challenge Tour and Europro Tour.
