Prior to playing collegiate tennis, Busby was regarded as one of the best players in Great Britain. He represented his country playing for the national team.

Before Arizona

The Birmingham, England native comes to Arizona as one of the highest regarded junior college transfers in the country, as he finished his freshman season at Cowley County College (Arkansas City, Kan.) as the No. 2 ranked player in the nation. He advanced to the final round of NJCAA nationals and posted a 9-4 record against ranked opponents that season, including going 4-3 against top-10 individuals on his way to earning All-America honors. He played every dual match from the No. 1 position. After spending a year at Cowley CC, Busby transferred to Mesa Community College for his sophomore season before signing with Arizona for his junior year.
