TUCSON, Ariz.- With seven of eight players returning from last season's
team, Arizona women's tennis received a No. 31 spot in the fall rankings
released Tuesday. The Wildcats finished last year's campaign ranked No. 31
in the country after advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Sophomore Lindsay Blau and junior Michelle Gough earned a No. 8 doubles
ranking for their strong fall season. Freshman Uzma Khan captured a No. 100
ranking in singles competition. Khan is tied with six other players at 100,
Kendrick Bunn (North Carolina), Marketa Blazkova (South Alabama), Michelle
Matko (Ohio State), Monika Horvath (Pepperdine), Natalie Alekhova (New
Mexico), and Becky Varnum (Notre Dame).
Arizona opens its spring season at the Pac-10 Indoor Championships in
Seattle, Jan. 7-9.
