TUCSON, Ariz. - Right fielder Shelley Duncan has been named
to Collegiate Baseball's 1999 Freshman All-America team.
Duncan set a Pac-10 freshman record by hitting 20 home runs. He broke the Arizona freshman marks for home runs, runs batted in, extra-base hits, total bases and slugging percentage.
Duncan joined George Arias and Jason Thompson (1993) as the
only Wildcats to ever homer 20 times in a single season.
Right-handed pitcher/designated hitter Ben Diggins was also honored by the magazine, earning honorable mention freshman All-America status.
Diggins led the Cats in victories, going 8-6, 6.95 with two saves in 20 appearances. He set an Arizona record for strikeouts by a freshman pitcher with 91.
