WILLIAMSBURG, Va.- Sophomore Carly Stringer and junior Joanna Buczkowska
advanced to the semifinals of Flight B doubles competition Friday at the
William and Mary Invitational. The duo defeated the tandem of Jessica
Arthyur and Nina Kamp of William and Mary, 8-4, in the quarterfinal round.
Stringer and Buczkowska began their semifinal match with Duke's Prim
Siripipat and Iona Plesu but play was suspended due to darkness with Duke
serving leading, 4-1.
In other doubles action, sophomores Brooke Taylor and Laresa Marino fell to
William and Mary's team of Elizabeth O and Kelli Partlow, 8-5, in Flight B
competition.
In Flight A action, Arizona's duo of junior Vanessa Abel and freshman Siri
Fomsgaard defeated Janelle Williams and Monica Peets of Richmond, 8-4 in
the quarterfinals and then were defeated by Wake Forest's Mariel Verban and
Bea Bielik in the semifinals, 8-6.
In the other two Flight A matches for the Wildcats, sophomore Lindsay Blau
and junior Michelle Gough were victorious in their quarterfinal match
against Old Dominion's Ana Radeljevic and Mily Kannarkat, 8-4, but was
halted in the semifinals by Wake Forest's Adria Engel and Maren Haus,
falling 8-4.
Arizona returns to action Saturday morning with two rounds of singles
action before doubles play resumes Saturday afternoon.
