Keith Smith's 42-yard touchdown pass to Bobby Wade that won the Washington
State game last Saturday was named the Compaq College Football Play of the
Week. The play will now be in the running for the Play of the Year, which
will be voted on at the end of the season.
Last year, two plays turned in by Arizona players were presented with the
Compaq National Play of the Week. Award. Ortege Jenkins' game-winning flip
to beat Washington was named the Offensive Play of the Week and Chris
McAlister's interception that helped seal the Holiday Bowl victory over
Nebraska was named as a Defensive Play of the Week. Neither of those,
however, were named the College Football Play of the Year.
