Six-Run Eighth Leads Dons to Victory over Cats

TUCSON, Ariz.San Francisco broke a 10-10 tie with a six-run eighth inning en route to a 16-10 victory to salvage the final game of its series at Arizona Sunday afternoon.

San Francisco improved to 1-3 with the win, while the Cats fell to 4-2.

Junior left fielder Danny Trumble led the Dons at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Sophomore first baseman Jesse Foppert doubled, homered and drove in three. Senior second baseman Tony Hurtado was hit by a pitch twice, giving him 70 for his career, breaking the NCAA record of 68, previously shared by Clay Schwartz of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Arizona broke its school record for hit batsman in a single game as Wildcat pitchers tagged six San Francisco hitters.

Offensively for the Cats, junior designated hitter Ryan O'Donnell went 3-4 with three runs and three RBI, including his first career home run.

Senior right-hander Mike Meyer (0-1) took the loss for the Cats, allowing all six runs in the eighth. Junior righty Jesse Mena (1-0) earned the victory, shutting out Arizona on two hits over 2.2 innings.

Arizona returns to action Monday when it plays host to BYU in the first game of a two-contest series at 3 p.m. at Sancet Field.
