TUCSON, Ariz.Freshman third baseman Kainoa Obrey hit a three-run homer to
cap a five-run sixth-inning rally as Brigham Young completed a two-game
sweep of No. 19 Arizona, 8-1, here Tuesday afternoon.
The Cats fell to 4-4 with their third consecutive loss, while the Cougars
improved to 2-4.
With the game tied at one in the sixth, BYU scored five runs off Arizona's
losing pitcher, senior right-hander Mike Meyer (0-2). Following RBI hits by
senior shortstop Nick Day and sophomore designated hitter Michael Davies,
Obrey hit his first career home run, a three-run shot to the opposite field
in right.
Senior right-hander Micah Mangrum earned the win by throwing 5.0 innings,
allowing one run on five hits. Three relievers combined to shut out the
Cats on three hits over the final 4.0 innings.
Sophomore left fielder Kenny Huff and junior right fielder Ryan O'Donnell
each went 2-for-4 for the Cats.
Arizona returns to play Thursday when the Cats open a three-game set with
New Mexico.
