USC Wins PING/Arizona Intercollegiate, Beats Arizona by Seven Strokes
Arizona's finish in this tournament marks the second time the Cats have placed second this season. The UA was also the runner-up at the year's first outing The Ridges Intercollegiate on Sept 11-12.
New Mexico placed third with a 9-over-par 861, San Diego State was fourth at 870, while Stanford and UCLA tied for fifth at 875.
Individually, Arizona freshman Ricky Barnes won the tournament after recording a 54-hole total of 9-over-par 213. He entered the final round with a two shot lead and carded an even-par 71 this afternoon to increase his winning margin to four shots. By finishing first, Barnes became the first Arizona men's golfer to win a tournament since Rory Sabbatini won the 1997 Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate.
USC's Nick Jones was the runner-up after recording a 5-under-par 208, while California's Han Lee placed third with a 3-under-par 210. Another Trojan golfer, Nick Webb, was joined by UCLA's Parker McLachlin in a tie for fifth place at 2-under-par 211.
Arizona will return to action on Feb. 23 - 25, at the John Burns Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii.
