TUCSON, Ariz.Sophomore shortstop Matt Maguire drove in five runs and six
Nevada batters collected three or more hits as the Wolf Pack cruised to a
22-12 victory over Arizona here Saturday afternoon.
Nevada improved its mark to 6-3 with the victory, while the Cats dropped to
7-6.
Senior first baseman Don Price went 4-for-6 and scored four runs, while
junior right fielder Josh Laidlaw went 3-for-4 with four runs as well.
Senior center fielder Joe Inglett reached base five times with a double and
four walks. Nevada held a 19-0 lead after five and a half innings.
Sophomore right fielder Shelley Duncan was the Cats' bright spot, hitting
two home runs and matching his career high of six RBI. Duncan is the first
player in Arizona history to post five multi-homer games.
Nevada freshman right-hander Darrell Rasner (3-0) earned the win with 6.0
innings of work. Senior righty Mike Crawford (2-2) allowed six runs in 2.1
innings to take the loss for Arizona. Senior southpaw Rob Shabansky made
his return to the mound for the Cats after sitting out more than a year
with an elbow injury that led to Tommy John surgery. Shabansky gave up
three unearned runs in 1.2 innings.
The Cats and Wolf Pack wrap up their series Sunday at 1 p.m. at Sancet Field.
