TUCSON, Ariz.Sophomore right fielder Shelley Duncan hit two home runs and
sophomore lefty Brian Pemble allowed five hits over 7.0-plus innings as
Arizona salvaged the final contest of its three-game series with Nevada, 9-3.
Arizona improved to 8-6 with the win, while the Wolf Pack fell to 6-4.
Duncan, who homered twice Saturday, went back-to-back with sophomore
designated hitter Ben Diggins in the fifth. Diggins went 3-for-4 with three
RBI. Senior center fielder Troy Gingrich drove in three runs with a pair of
hits. Junior first baseman Ernie Durazo extended his career-long hitting
streak to 10 with a pair singles.
Pemble (3-0) set career highs in innings and strike outs (8). He shut the
Wolf Pack out through seven before walking the first two batters in the
eighth and being relieved. Junior right-hander Matt Rainer (0-2) gave up
five runs in 4.0-plus innings.
The Cats return to action Wednesday when they open a four-game road swing
with a contest at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 6 p.m. CST.
