LAFAYETTE, La. (March 13, 2000) - The Arizona men's golf team is in fifth place after the
first two rounds of the Louisiana Classic. The Wildcats shot rounds of
290 and 296 today at the Oakbourne Country Club (Par 72, 7,002 yards)
for a total of 586. Baylor is in first place with a score of 579, which
is two strokes better than second-place Texas A&M with 581. Kansas is
third with a score of 583 and Colorado is a stroke ahead of Arizona in
fourth place.
Individually, Colorado's Matthew Zions has a four-stroke lead with a
7-under-par 137, while Aaron Pellegrom of Baylor and Jake Istnick of
Kansas are tied for second at 3-under-par 141. Arkansas' Craig Lile and
SMU's Franklin Hatchett are tied for fourth at 1-under-par 143.
Arizona freshman Ricky Barnes is tied for eighth place with a 1-over-par
145 (73-72), while senior Scott Moore is tied for 13th at 2-over-par 146
(72-74). Sophomore Brandon Smith is tied for 16th at 3-over-par 147
(71-76) and senior Derek Gillespie shot a 4-over-par 148 (74-74) and is
tied for 22nd. Sophomore Cody Beyer rounds out the Arizona lineup tied
for 56th at 10-over-par 154.
The tournament concludes with the third and final round Thursday.
