BERKELEY, Calif. - California's sixth-ranked doubles team of Karoline
Borgersen and Anita Kurimay outlasted Arizona's 10th-ranked duo of
sophomore Lindsay Blau and junior Michelle Gough, 8-6, highlighting an 8-0
victory for No. 8 Cal over No. 18 Arizona Saturday.
In singles play, five of the six matches went a full three sets that the
Golden Bears would eventually prevail in. At the No. 1 position,
35th-ranked Anita Kurimay bested UA's 73rd-ranked Blau, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
California's 60th-ranked Claire Curran topped Wildcat senior Vanessa Abel,
6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot. In search of her second win in as many
days, Arizona freshman Uzma Khan came up short falling to Cal's Morisa
Yang, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(6).
In the other doubles contest, California's duo of Amy Jensen and Claire
Curran logged an 8-1 win over UA's Khan and sophomore Laresa Marino.
Arizona will return home for its final regular season match of the year
when it plays host to in-state rival Arizona State Saturday, April 22, at 1
p.m. MST.
