Tucson, Ariz. -- In the latest MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, the
University of Arizona men's golf team was ranked 11th for the third
consecutive week. The Cats are also the second-highest ranked team from the
Pac-10 Conference, trailing only Arizona State, which is No. 4.
Individually, Arizona senior Derek Gillespie is the team's top-ranked
golfer and is No. 26. In nine tournaments this season, he has four top-10
finishes to go with two top-20 outings and is second on the squad in stroke
average with a 72.15 mark.
Freshman Ricky Barnes, who has won two of the Wildcats four tournaments
this Spring, is ranked No. 29. He is first on the team in stroke average
(71.70) and has three top-10 outings on the season. Another freshman,
Patrick Norris, is the only other UA golfer to be ranked and he is No. 96.
The Wildcats will be in action this Friday - Saturday, April 7-9 in Los
Cabos, Mexico, where they will play in the U.S. Collegiate Golf
Championships. Saturday's action can be seen on ESPN from 9 - 11 a.m. and
Sunday's play will be tape delayed on ESPN2 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
