Women's Golf Wins NCAA West Regionals
TEMPE, Ariz. - The first ranked Arizona women's golf team captured the title at the NCAA West Regionals today. The Wildcats finished with a three day team total of 12-over-par 876. San Jose State placed second with a team score of 17-over-par 881, while Southern California came in third, shooting a 24-over-par 888. Arizona State (25-over-par 889)and Texas Christian (28-over-par 892) round out the top five teams. The tournament was held at the Karsten Golf Course (par 72, 6131 yards) which is located on the campus of Arizona State.
Individually for the Wildcats junior Christina Monteiro tied for sixth, shooting a three day total of 1-over-par 217. Freshman Julia Kraschinski moved up three places from yesterday to tie for 10th, carding a 3-over-par 219. Senior Jenna Daniels shot a 5-over-par 221 and tied for 15th place. Sophomore Cristina Baena jumped 12 places to tie for 34th place, posting a 9-over-par 225. Rounding out the top-five Arizona competitors was senior Jill Gomric who finished tied for 65th (14-over-par 230).
The top-five individuals in the tournament were Arizona State's Miriam Nagle (7-under-par 209), USC's Candie Kung (5-under-par 211), Oklahoma State's Maria Boden (3-under-par 213, TCU's Angela Stanford and San Jose State's Rebecka Heinmer,t who both finished at 2-under-par 214.
The final tournament of the season for the Wildcats will be the NCAA Championships from May 24-27, in Sunriver, Ore.
