Uguw finished his Wildcat careers as one of the most decorated throwers in Arizona history. He finished his career as a three-time All-American, two-time NCAA runner-up and two-time Pacific-10 Conference champion. After transferring to UA from Central Arizona College, Ugwu, won the Pac-10 discus title and finished second in the shot put at the NCAA Championships. After that season, Ugwu competed for Nigeria at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics where he did not advance out of his flight. As a senior in 1998, Ugwu won the Pac-10 shot put title and then finished second in the shot at the NCAA Championships with a throw of 62-5 . He notched a career-best shot put mark earlier this year the May 13 Wildcat Qualifier in Tucson. Ugwu tossed the shot 65-7 (20.00m), which ranks 40th in the world this year. He also won the African Championships in the shot put and finished second in the discus. Ugwu was born July 19, 1973 in Lagos, Nigeria.
