Hilo, Hawaii (Jan. 20, 2001) -- The University of Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans tagged four University of Arizona Wildcat pitchers for nine hits in a 4-1 victory at Wong Stadium on January 20.
Kaneshiro, a 5-foot-11 shortstop better known for his defense, jumped on Brian Pemble's 2-0 fastball and sent the ball over the left
field fence in the second inning. Chad Agustin opened the inning with a walk and scored on the home run, the first of Kaneshiro's
career, to give the Vulcans a 2-1 lead.
The Wildcats (3-1) put up a very quick run in the first as lead-off batter Justin St. Clair tripled to right center and subsequently
scored on Brad Hassey's fly to center.
The Vulcans (1-3) added two runs in the sixth. Petersen started the inning with a single and stole two bases. Petersen raced home as
Agustin drove a pitch to the right side of the infield. Follow-up singles by Johnny Dudoit and Todd Jinbo loaded the bases. Kaneshiro
proceeded to collect his third RBI of the day with a sacrifice fly to score Agustin.
Petersen and Dudoit led the Vulcans with two hits apiece. Kaneshiro was 1-for-2 with three RBI.
