Game 6 -- Southern Utah vs. Connecticut
TUCSON, Ariz.--Connecticut (1-1) won the most closely played game in
Friday's Wildcat Invitational action, 1-0.
Jessica Yanosy tripled to right center with one out in the bottom of the
seventh, then beat the throw from first base when Nicole Dubovik grounded
to third. She slid under the tag headfirst.
Neither team could string together any hits through six innings while
Southern Utah stranded three runners in scoring position and Connecticut
stranded six.
Barbara Cook (1-1) earned the victory in relief. Lori Shephard (2-3) took
the loss for Southern Utah, which dropped to 5-6 overall.
Game 5 -- Connecticut vs. Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz.--Arizona continued its season-opening winning streak, but
found the going somewhat different than usual in a 11-3 victory over
Connecticut in the club's own Wildcat Invitational.
Connecticut scored three times in the bottom of the fifth, including an
RBI triple by Abbie Link, and spoiled a one-hit pitching performance to
that point by UA's Becky Lemke (7-0). Lemke ended up surrendering four hits
and all three runs scored by the Huskies were earned.
Arizona did shorten the game by one inning when Leneah Manuma hit a
two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the sixth to invoked the mercy
rule. It was Connecticut's season opener.
The Cats (17-0) scored twice in the first. Lauren Bauer led off with a
single, stole second and scored on a single by Nicole Giordano. Two outs
later, Giordano stole home on the back half of a double steal with Lindsey
Collins at first to push the lead to 2-0.
The Huskies loaded the bases with a single, hit batter and walk in the
second but Lemke induced Jessica Yanosy to pop out to end the inning.
Arizona used a walk, three consecutive singles and an RBI grounder to
score three more in the third, with runs driven in by Collins, Jenny Finch
and pinch hitter Kim Balkan. In the fourth, after Giordano led off with a
single, Mascarenas' double to right was mishandled and both scored on the
play to make it 8-0.
Connecticut's Lisa Giralamo had a single in the second and Sarah Sandford
singled in the fifth.
Game 4 - Arizona vs. Drake

TUCSON, Ariz.--Jenny Gladding pitched a two-hitter for her fourth shutout
of the year to help lead Arizona to a 5-0 victory over Drake in Arizona's
Wildcat Invitational Friday.
Gladding gave up a double in the third and a single in the sixth to Brook
Buchanan. She struck out nine and walked none to impove to 5-0 on the year.
Arizona (16-0) used its short game in the first to produce two runs.
Lauren Bauer led off with an infield single and stole second. Nicole
Giordano walked. No one covered third on a double steal attempt and Drake
catcher Jayme McDonald's throw sailed into the outfield, scoring Bauer.
Lindsey Collins' single drove in Giordano an out later.
Gladding helped her own cause with an RBI double in the second to give UA
a 3-0 lead. The Cats extendedthe lead with RBIs on a grounder by Collins
and a single by Jennie Finch. Drake (1-6) pitcher Katie Shimon (0-4) took
the loss.
Game 1 - Southern Utah 4, McNeese State 3
TUCSON, Ariz.--Shaylin Stoddard singled home a run in the bottom of the
seventh to give Southern Utah a 4-3 victory over McNeese State in Arizona's
Wildcat Invitational.
Amand Whitaker led off the inning with a walk, was sacrificed to second by
Melanie Heaps and moved to third on a throwing error at the bag, then
scored on Stoddard's hit.
Heather Moreaux's solo home run in the top of the first staked McNeese
State (5-5) to a 1-0 lead. SUU answered in the third with singles by
Melanie Heaps and Stoddard, a sacrifice by Emily Cedarholm and a two-run
double by Lacee Leprey to go up 2-1.
MSU regained the lead on a two-out, two-run double by Stephanie Denham in
the fifth, but Cederholm tied it at 3-3 with a run-scoring double for
Southern Utah (5-6) in the bottom of the inning.
Game 2 -- Florida vs. McNeese State
TUCSON, Ariz.--Florida collected 10 hits and used a four-hit shutout
pitching effort from Amanda Moore to beat McNeese State, 4-0, in Game 2 of
Arizona's Wildcat Invitational tournament.
Jennifer Mossadeghi knocked a three-run home run to left in the second to
put Florida on the scoreboard and the Gators added a run in the third on
Emily Marino's run-scoring single.
The Gators put together their fourth consecutive game with 10 or more hits
in improving to 10- 3 on the season. McNeese State lost its second game of
the day and dropped to 5-6 overall.
MSU had only two hits until the seventh inning. Heather Moreaux and Katie
Trout hit singles and pinch-hitter Tanya Prudhome was hit by a pitch to
load the bases, but Moore got a ground out to end the game.
Game 3 -- Drake vs. Florida
TUCSON, Ariz.--
Neither pitching staff was overly effective, but Florida hitters made the
timely contact in beating Drake, 9-1, in tournament action of Arizona's
Wildcat Invitational Friday afternoon.
The Gators had 11 hits and Drake had 10, but the Bulldogs stranded 13
runners in the five- inning game ended by the mercy rule.
Florida's Jennifer Mossadeghi led off the first with a double and later
scored on Bree Berger's single. The Gators pushed the early lead to 2-0 on
Mylin Prieto's sacrifice fly. Drake cut the lead in half in the top of the
second on Greta Nelson's run-scoring single.
Jenilee Garner hit an RBI single and Ashley Boone doubled in two more runs
for Florida (11-3) in the second to push the lead to 5-1.
The Bulldogs (1-5) loaded the bases with one out in the fourth, but Gator
reliever Renise Landry got a strikeout and a popup to strand the runners
and earn a save. Drake loaded them again in the fifth, but also left three.
