Utah Snaps Baseball's Seven Game Win Streak

    TUCSON, Ariz.- The Arizona baseball team's season high seven game winning streak came to an end Saturday as the Cats would fall 6-4 to Utah at Sancet Field Saturday afternoon. The Utes rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth to steal the victory and even the series at one game a piece. The loss drops the Cats to 12-8 on the season while the Utes improve to 8-7 with win.

    The Wildcats, who led throughout the game, scored a single run in the second and three in the fourth to take an early 4-0 lead. Justyn St. Clair, who finished the day 3-for-4, drove in two runs for Cats while Brian Anderson and Brad Hassey plated one run each.

    The Arizona advantage would not hold up as the Utes would cut the lead in half with two runs in the sixth, then score another in the top of the eighth before taking the lead with three runs in the ninth.

    UA reliever Rob Elias (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season, surrendering two runs in 0.2 innings pitched. David Ebright (1-0) earned his first win, tossing 1.1 innings in relief of Utah starter Travis Palmer. Matt McAfee picked up his second save of the season for the Utes. Wildcat starter Sean Rierson equaled his career high with eight punch outs in six innings of work.

    Offensively, Utah's Mike Westfall inflicted the most damage going 3-for-5 with three RBI and Donnie Saba scored twice for the Utes. Ken Riley joined St. Clair as the only other Cat with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored. Ernie Durazo extended his hitting streak to 23 games with a first inning single. He is now tied with Todd Trafton and Willie Morales for the fourth longest hitting streak in school history.

    The Cats and Utes return to action tomorrow for the rubber game of the three game set. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
