Baseball Sweeps Southern Utah with 13-7 Win

    TUCSON, Ariz.- The Arizona baseball team scored nine runs in the second inning en route to a 13-7 win over Southern Utah at Frank Sancet Field on Sunday. The Cats swept the Thunderbirds three games to none in the weekend series to improve their record to 19-12 overall. Arizona rapped out 14 hits on the afternoon.

    The Cats sent 13 hitters to the plate in the second and collected eight hits. Junior Kenny Huff and senior Jeff Casper each paired hits and scored twice in the inning. Casper, who went 2-for-3 on the afternoon, also picked up two RBI and Huff one.

    Senior Daryl DeSalvo (1-0) earned his first victory of the season working 1.2 innings in relief of Arizona starter Chris Goodman. SUU's James Anderson (0-2) took the loss.

    Offensively, senior Ernie Durazo completed a hot hitting weekend with a 3-for-5, two run effort. The first baseman tore apart the T-Bird pitching staff to the tune of a .692 average (9-for-13), nine RBI, seven runs scored, two home runs and triple. Classmate Erik Torres went 2-for-5 with two RBI in Sunday's contest.

    The Wildcats will return to Pac-10 Conference action next weekend when they host Southern California Friday through Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday.
