Wildcat Golf Teams Near Top of National Rankings
Individually, Wildcat freshman Lorena Ochoa is the nations top-ranked golfer. Ochoa was named the Rolex College Golfer of the Month for the third time this season in February, only the third time in the six-year history of the CGF that has occurred (Jenna Daniels of Arizona 1999-2000, Tiger Woods of Stanford 1995-96). The freshman has won three tournaments this season, including last months Wildcat Invitational.
Also ranked in the top 10 of the CGF poll for Arizona is freshman Natalie Gulbis, who comes in at No. 8. Gulbis won the first tournament title of her career last month at the TRW Regional Challenge.
On the mens side, sophomores Reid Hatley and Ricky Barnes are the top-ranked golfers for the Wildcats. Hatley is rated No. 32 by the CGF, while Barnes is No. 36.
The Arizona men received 207 points in the Golf World coaches poll and are 12th.
Arizonas womens golf team returns to action on March 27 when it travels to Honolulu for the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational hosted by the University of Hawaii. The men are in action on April 6 at the U.S. Collegiate Championships in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
