TUCSON, Ariz.- Oregon State's Scott Nicholson tossed a complete game, five-hit shutout over the Arizona Wildcats at Frank Sancet Field Saturday afternoon. The southpaw dominated the Arizona lineup, retiring the Wildcats in order in six of the nine innings. He struck out four and walked none in his second complete game performance of the season. The loss drops the Wildcats to 20-16 overall and 3-5 in the Pac-10.
The Beavers (19-11, 3-2 Pac-10) scored one in the first, three in the second, two in the fifth and single runs in the seventh and ninth. Leadoff hitter Eric Stark led the Beaver offense with a 3-for-6, two run, one RBI outing. Chris Biles and Jason McBride collected four and three hits, respectively, for OSU.
Designated hitter Marc Kaiser, coming off a complete game performance on the mound on Friday, was the lone Wildcat to collect multiple hits, finishing the game 2-for-3. Sean Rierson (3-4) took the loss for Arizona surrendering six runs on 11 hits in 4.2 innings.
The Cats and Beavers will meet up again tomorrow for the rubber game of the three game set. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
