Wildcats Hold Back Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 14-9

    TUCSON, Ariz.- The Arizona offense continued its torrid ways as the Wildcats downed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 14-9 in non-conference action at Sancet Field Thursday night. Seven Wildcat starters collected at least one hit and outfielder Shelley Duncan launched his Pac-10 leading 17th home run of the season. The Wildcats improve to 24-17 for the season while the Islanders fall to 14-26.

    Brian Anderson and Ernie Durazo scorched the Islander pitching staff for eight of the 16 Arizona hits on the evening, both players finished the game 4-for-5. Durazo drove in a pair and scored twice and Anderson chipped in with a triple, a stolen base, three RBI and a run scored. Leadoff hitter Brad Hassey finished 1-for-3 with two walks, three stolen bases and three runs scored.

    Freshman Marc Kaiser (7-4) picked up the win, surrendering six runs, of which only two were earned. He scattered five hits over six innings while striking out three.

    The two schools meet up again tomorrow for game two of the three game set. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on 790 KNST.
