Women's Golf Moves into the Lead at the PING/ASU Invitational
Entering play Saturday trailing the lead by five strokes, Arizona carded a team total of 293 (+5) to move into first place with a two-round score of 597. The Wildcats' second-round 293 was the lowest round of the tournament by two strokes. UA leads the 15-team field by three shots heading into Sunday's final round.
Individually, freshman Lorena Ochoa retained the overall lead with a two-round total of 143 (-1). She is the only golfer in the field of 84 under par after 36 holes and holds a one-stroke lead over Washington's Kelli Kamimura.
Also competing for Arizona is Natalie Gulbis, who is tied for 17th place at 149 (+5); Laura Myerscough, who is tied for 37th at 154 (+10); Christina Baena and Anne Lee, who are both tied for 43rd place at 155 (+11).
Two Wildcat golfers are also competing as individuals in the event. Christelle Cuzon is tied for 43rd place at 155 (+11) and Christina Monteiro is tied for 81st place at 166 (+22).
The 54-hole PING/ASU Invitational is being contested at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz. The course is a par 72, 6,101-yard layout.
