Four Arizona Athletes Travel To USA Track And Field Championships

Freshman, Height: 6-4, Weight: 245, Born: Feb. 20, 1983, Hometown: Arroyo Grande, Calif., High School: Arroyo Grande H.S.

USA Junior Championships: Shields will compete for the Wildcats in the shot put and discus at the USA Junior Championships.

Arizona: Completed a solid freshman season at Arizona, qualifying for the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships... Had a season-best outdoor toss of 62-8 1/2 (19.11m) at the NCAA Championships where he finished ninth... Tossed the shot 61-2 (18.64m) in the shot put to finish second in the event at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships at Washington State... Prior to that, Shields best outdoor throw in the shot was 60-6 (18.44m) at the Mt. SAC Relays... Shields' best indoor throw came at the NAU-ASU-UA dual meet in Flagstaff when he let go a throw of 62-4 1/4 (18.90m)... Placed 13th in his first NCAA Championships event, the indoor meet in Fayetteville, with a throw of 60-11 (18.56m).

High School: Attended Arroyo Grande (Calif.) H.S. where he earned four letters in track and field, three in football and three in basketball... Named to the All-Region team three times for the shot put, four for discus and two in basketball... Earned All-State honors once in both the shot and discus... High School All-American in the discus... Holds the school records in the shot (64-4 1/4) and discus (209-9)... High school team won the California state team title... Won the junior discus competition at the U.S.-Great Britain Juniors meet in Manchester, England... Placed second at the Junior meet after his senior year.

Personal: Sean Dennis Shields... Born February 10, 1983 in Los Angeles... Son of Dennis Shields and Andrea Barba... Has one older brother, Matt and one older sister, Kimie, who plays volleyball at the University of New Mexico... Academic area of interest in education... Would like to pursue a career as a counselor or physical education teacher... Enjoys bodyboarding and the beach.

William (Mike) Kenyon
Graduated Senior, Height: 5-10, Weight: 165, Born: August 26, 1978, Hometown: Sacramento, Calif., High School: Del Campo H.S.

USA Championships: Will be making his first appearance at the U.S. Championships, competing in the 400m.

Arizona: Completed his collegiate career as a Wildcat, finishing seventh in the 400m at the NCAA Championships, running 45.93 in the final... Also competed in the 200m at the Championships, running 20.89 in the prelims, but he did not advance to the finals... Set the 400m standard at Arizona earlier in the season, running 45.38 in the event at the Sun Angel Classic... Won the Pacific-10 Conference Championships with a time of 45.83 in the 400m... Was a three-time All-American for the Wildcats... Ran 45.43 in Tucson at the 2001 UA-ASU-NAU dual meet... Finished third at the Pac-10 Championships as a junior, as well... Transferred to Arizona from Cal State-Sacramento where he was the Big Sky Conference champ in the 200m and 400m in 1999.

High School: Attended Del Campo H.S. in Sacramento, Calif., where he earned three letters in track and field, two in football and one in basketball... Named the track and field team's most valuable athlete his junior and senior years... All-CIF Division I his senior year... Ran 47.16 in the 400m and 21.52 in the 200m as a senior, setting school records in both events.

Personal: William Michael (Mike) Kenyon... Born August 26, 1978, in Colorado Springs, Colo... Son of Bill Kenyon and Kathryn Gifford... Has two sisters, Susan Pankow and Tracey Kenyon... Tracey played basketball at Cal State-Sacramento... Graduated with a degree in physical education with a minor in athletic coaching.

Amy Linnen
Sophomore, Height: 5-10, Born: July 15, 1982, Hometown: Mt. Siani, N.Y., High School: Mt. Siani H.S.

USA Championships: One of the top collegiate vaulters, will be competing at the championships for her third straight season.

Arizona: A three-time All-American... Won the NCAA Indoor title and set a new collegiate record in the pole vault, going over 14-10 1/4 (4.53m) in the event... Won the Pacific-10 Conference outdoor title with a clearance of 14-1 3/4 (4.31m)... Linnen no heighted at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, however... Last season, Linne finished fifth in the vault at the Indoor Championships and sixth at the Outdoor meet... Won the pole vault at the USATF Junior Championships last season.

High School: Attended Mt. Siani (N.Y.) High School... Earned two letters in track and field and four in gymnastics... Was the No. 1-ranked female pole vaulter in the nation her senior year... Track and Field News All-American... Won the pole vault titles at the Penn Relays, the National Scholastic meet and the New York state meet... Three-time All-American... National Outdoor Champion and U.S. Indoor record holder as a senior... Qualified for the Olympic Trials where she competed in the qualifying round.

Personal: Amy Cherie Linnen... Born July 15, 1982 in Port Jefferson, N.Y... Daughter of James and Susan Linnen... Academic area of interest is physical education... Would like to become a teacher and coach.

Brianna Glenn
Senior, Height: 5-6, Born: April 18, 1980, Hometown: La Mirada, Calif., High School: La Mirada H.S.

USA Championships: Competing at the meet for the third straight year... Finished third in the long jump and sixth in the 100m last year... Competed in the same events at the 2000 Olympic Trials... Finished 11th in the long jump that year and made it to the semifinals of the 100m.

Arizona: Finished her collegiate career as one of the top female track and field competitors in school history... Won the 2001 NCAA long jump and 200m titles and was an 11-time All-American... Finished her collegiate career with school records in the 100m (11.33, 11.15w), 200m (22.91) and long jump (21-10, 6.65m)... Ranked in the top five in Pac-10 history with those times, as well... Became the first female in NCAA history to win a long jump title and a sprinting title at the same NCAA Championships when she completed the feat at the meet in Eugene, Ore... Finished fourth in the 100m at this year's NCAA meet, sixth in the 200m and third in the long jump... Won the Pacific-10 Conference title in the 200m and was second in both the 100m and long jump... Won the Mountain Pacific Indoor titles in the 60m and 200m, earning Female Athlete of the Year honors for the third straight year in the conference... After winning the Pac-10 100m and 200m titles in 2001, Glenn was named the conference's Female Track Athlete of the Year... Was also a top student at Arizona, earning Academic All-America honors her junior and senior years.

High School: Attended La Mirada (Calif.) H.S. where she was a four time letterwinner in track and field... Also earned two letters in both basketball and cheerleading... Was named to the All-Suburban League, All-City and All-District teams all four years... Was second in the triple jump at the Junior Nationals after her senior year.

Personal: Brianna Marie Glenn... Born April 18, 1980, in Santa Ana, Calif... Daughter of Theresa Payton and Courtney Glenn... Has three younger siblings, two brothers and a sister.
