TUCSON, Ariz. - San Diego State used two big innings to beat Northern Iowa, 7-0, in Friday action at Arizona's Hillenbrand Invitational softball tournament.
San Diego State, held to four hits through five innings, took a 3-0 lead
in the top of the sixth. Erin Mahoney singled with one out and after
another out, SDSU had back-to-back triples by Janna Kovensky and Kelcy
Murphy, and a run-scoring single by Jacque Vaca.
SDSU added four more runs -- all unearned after two UNI errors -- in the
top of the seventh, capped by a two-run home run by Kovensky.
Aztec pitcher Celena Velasquez held UNI to four hits. SDSU improved to
10-6 and dropped the Panthers to 7-5.
