Wildcat Soccer Blanked by No. 20 Stanford


  • Stanford, Calif. (Oct. 20) -- The University of Arizona women's soccer team was shutout at No. 20 Stanford, 2-0, on Friday.

    The Cardinal gained an early advantage when Kelsey Carlson scored just 12 minutes into the contest. Stanford capped the victory by notching its second goal with less than five minutes remaining in the game.

    Stanford outshot Arizona, 14-6, for the match. UA freshmen Sierra Cristiano and Liz Bartlett had team highs of two shots apiece, while junior Erin Nelson and freshman Lisa Mireles took one shot each. Wildcat goalkeeper Shannon Monti played the entire match in the nets for the Cats, tallying five saves.

    On a five-game winless streak, Arizona now stands at 3-10-2 overall and 0-4-1 in Pac-10 play. Stanford improves its record to 9-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in conference action.

    In the midst of a three-game road swing, the Wildcats remain in the Bay Area to take on eighth-ranked California on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 12 p.m. in Berkeley.
