Wildcat Men's Golfers Tied for Fifth Place After Three Rounds of the Pac-10 Golf Championships

Arizona's Ricky Barnes is in Fifth Place Heading into Tomorrow's Final Round

Tempe, Ariz. The 10th ranked University of Arizona men's golf team shot a 2-over-par 362 today in third round action of the 2000 Pac-10 Golf Championships and fell one place to fifth. Heading into tomorrow's final round at the Karsten Golf Course (Par-72, 7,026), the Wildcats stand at 1-over-par 1081 and are tied with UCLA.

Five-time defending Pac-10 champion Arizona State owns a 32 shot lead and is in first with a 54-hole total of 48-under-par 1032. California is in second at 16-under 1064, followed by Oregon State (12-under 1068) and Oregon (9-under 1071).

Individually, ASU's Paul Casey continues to lead the way and he has increased his lead to six shots at 18-under-par 198. The two-time defending Pac-10 champion fired a 67 today after carding rounds of 66 and 65 yesterday. UCLA's Travis Johnson is in second place at 12-under 204 after shooting a 65 this afternoon. Oregon State's Tim Mickelson and ASU's Jonas Runnquist are tied for third at 10-under-par 206. Mickelson, the younger brother of former Sun Devil and current PGA star Phil Mickelson, had the best round of the tournament so far today, shooting a 8-under-par 64.

Arizona freshman Ricky Barnes had his best round of the tournament today and shot a 68 to move up from seventh to fifth place at 8-under-par 208 (71-69-68). Derek Gillespie shot a 71 today and fell from a tie for eighth to a five-way tie for 13th at 4-under 212 (71-70-71).

The rest of the Arizona lineup includes sophomore Cody Beyer, who is tied for 27th at 1-over-par 217 (70-73-74); freshman Reid Hatley, who is tied for 32nd at 3-over-par 219 (74-73-72); senior Scott Moore, who is tied for 51st at 10-over 226 (77-72-77) and freshman Patrick Norris who is tied for 53rd at 11-over-par 227 (76-73-78).

Tomorrow's final round will consist of 18 holes and begins at 7:30 a.m.
