MALIBU, Calif. (Sept. 22, 2000) -- In the midst of a four-game road swing, the University of Arizona women's soccer team fell to Pepperdine, 3-2, in front of a crowd of 336 on September 22.
Scoring her first goal of the season, junior TIFFANY SABADO (Kaneohe, HI/James B. Castle HS) tied Pepperdine by denting the net at 5:20. Freshman MEAGHAN MCNATT (Chino Hills, CA/Ruben S. Ayala HS) assisted the goal. Junior KRISTI LORONA (Tucson, AZ/Canyon Del Oro HS) also notched her first goal of the season to give the Wildcats an early 2-1 advantage at the 15:54 mark.
Pepperdine junior Kate Desmond knotted the game in the 49th minute, and
senior Stacia Spangler scored the winning goal for the Waves with less than
seven minutes remaining in regulation.
Pepperdine held the shots advantage over Arizona, 20-10. Lorona had a
team-high five shots to lead the Wildcats, while Sabado and senior KERI
KENNEDY-WEBER (Coto de Caza, CA/Santa Margarita HS) each added two shots.
Wildcat junior goalkeeper SHANNON MONTI (Phoenix, AZ/Shadow Mountain HS)
played all 90 minutes for the UA, tallying five saves.
The Wildcats are now 1-5-1 on the year, and Pepperdine improves to 6-1-1.
Arizona closes out its four-game road swing this weekend when the Wildcats
take on Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m.
