TUCSON, Ariz. - The top-ranked Arizona women's swimming and diving team defeated the unranked Florida State
Seminoles this afternoon at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center. The final score of the women's meet was Arizona 197, Florida State 156. The No. 4 Wildcat men's swimming and diving team was victorious over No. 25 Florida State (UA 214, FSU 149) and No. 15 Southern Methodist (UA 193, SMU 149).
For the Wildcat women junior Sarah Tolar swam very well for the second day in a row. Tolar captured first place in two
individual events, the 400 IM (4:23.51) and the 200 free (1:49.83). She was also a member of the 400 free relay team which placed
first place with a time of 3:34.79. Junior Katie Zimbone, who also swam on the first place 400 free relay squad, came in first place
in the 1000 free with a time of 10:08.94. Sophomore Beth Botsford was four tenths of a second away from capturing her second
automatic qualifying time in as many days when she swam to a 1:58.23 in the 200 backstroke. Botsford also won the 200 fly with a
time of 2:04.23. Freshman Jessica Wagner placed first in the 200 breast (2:19.30) and swam for the winning 400 free relay team.
The Arizona men's team won the 200 free relay and the 400 relay today. The 200 free relay team was made up of senior
captain Jay Schryver, senior Scott Gaskins, freshmen Tyler Johnson and Eric la Fleur and posted a time of 1:23.12. The 800
free relay team was made up of Schryver, Gaskins, junior Kris Souther and freshman Eric la Fleur. Senior transfer Tyler Painter
won both the 1000 free (9:13.83) and the 400 IM (3:58.88). He also placed second in the 200 back with a time of 1:55.06. Five
other Arizona individuals also took home first place, la Fleur in the 50 free (21.04), Schryver in the 200 free (1:39.79), Souther in the
200 back (1:51.64), freshman Greg Owen in the 200 breast (2:07.53)and sophomore Jeff Dash in the 200 fly (1:49.90).
The Wildcats next travel to Los Angeles when they take on Southern California on Nov. 10, the men then compete in the Southern California Invite and the women go to UCLA on Nov. 11.
