Arizona Women’s Track and Field Wins MPSF Indoor Championships

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The University of Arizona women’s track and field team won the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at the Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff.

    The Wildcat women scored 142 points, topping UCLA, which finished second with 130. Washington State finished third on the women’s side (125), Arizona State was fourth (51.50), and Utah State rounded out the top five (51).

    The Arizona men’s team finished in second with 105 points. Washington State edged the Wildcats in the team race with 108.50 points. Washington finished third (104), Utah State was fourth (85), and UCLA finished fifth (83).

    “We’re extrememely pleased with the performances by both the men’s and women’s teams,” director of track and field Dave Murray said. “It’s always nice to win the team title, but we also had some outstanding individual performances.”

     
     

    Junior Brianna Glenn scored 28 points for the Wildcat women, leading the individual points race. She won the women’s 60m, blowing through the field to win in a time of 7.38 seconds, successfully defending her title from last season at the meet.

    Glenn later defended her title in the 200m, blazing to a time of 23.76. Her time also gives her a strong NCAA provisional qualifier in the event. Friday night, she finished second in the long jump with a mark of 20-feet, 7.25 inches (6.28m).

    Junior Tara Chaplin also won two events for the Arizona women. Saturday, she brought home the women’s 5,000m title with a time of 17 minutes, 11.43 seconds. Her time was also a strong NCAA provisional qualifying time. She also won the 3,000m Friday in 10:08.11.

    The Arizona men’s 4x400m team smashed a school record in the event, placing second. The team of sophomore Matt Lea, senior Mike Kenyon, junior Jules Doumbya and senior Patrick Nduwimana ran 3:07.02, finishing just behind Arizona State (3:07.02), and running a solid NCAA provisional qualifying time.

    Kenyon and Nduwimana also both won their individual events. Kenyon raced to a time of 47.69 in the 400m, while Nduwimana cruised to a win in the 800m (1:55.42).

    Arizona’s milers each finished second at the meet in their respective races. Senior Tom Prindiville, who won the men’s 3,000m Friday, ran the mile in 4:19.04, while fellow senior Erin Doherty finished second in the women’s mile (5:05.00).
