As a perennial top-ten finisher in the Sears Directors' Cup competition, the University of Arizona maintains what is widely considered to be one of the nation's elite athletics programs. Encompassing nineteen intercollegiate sports, the Wildcats have a proud history of success and achievement.

Spanning more than 100 years, Wildcat Athletics seem to keep getting better and better. Highlights of University of Arizona accomplishments during the 1990's include the following:

Football - Arizona won more games (71) than any other Pac-10 school other than Washington. Leading the way were the 1998 Wildcats who finished the season with a Holiday Bowl win over Nebraska and a subsequent number four national ranking, the highest final ranking of any Pac-10 team since 1991.

Men's Basketball - The Wildcats extended a streak of 16 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances and 13 straight twenty-win seasons. The decade included one NCAA National Championship in 1997, five Pac-10 champion crowns and the third highest winning percentage in the nation. Led by Head Coach Lute Olson, UA's basketball team is proudly perched as one of the nation's elite.

Women's Basketball - The Cats capped off the decade with four consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament. The success on the court was met with rabid support as the program shattered the school attendance record by drawing 5,272 fans to a single game. The Arizona women have become a force to be reckoned with in the Pac-10, as well as nationally.

Softball - Arizona's claim as a national powerhouse was backed by ten consecutive trips to the College Worlds Series and five national Championships during the decade.

Baseball - The Wildcats qualified for the post-season on three occasions in the decade, adding to their historical success on the diamond, which includes three national championships.
