Wildcats’ are top-ranked team in the West
TUCSON, Ariz. ?- Best in the West.
That’s the simplest way to put it as the University of Arizona men’s golf team received the highest national ranking of any team in the Western half of the United States in Golfweek magazine’s all-time rankings list.
Arizona checked in at No. 7 in Golfweek’s ranking of all 299 NCAA Division I men’s golf programs with a rating of 71.60. Each of the six programs ranked ahead of the Wildcats, including top-ranked Georgia Tech, second-ranked Clemson and third-ranked Georgia, came from the South, Southeast, Central or South Central regions.
Rankings were based on performance since the start of the 1999-2000 season. In those six seasons, Arizona has won 13 tournaments, collected three third-place finishes at the NCAA Championships and had 14 All-Americans. Additionally, the Wildcats have been ranked as high as second nationally in one of the major college golf polls (accomplished in three consecutive seasons) in that span.
