TUCSON, Ariz. ?- Arizona junior John Meloan was named to the first-team All-Academic District 8 team on Thursday. CoSIDA members from within states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Washington voted for the 11-member team. The district selections advance on to the national ballot, which will be released on May 31.
Meloan, who has an 8-1 record in 14 starts for the No. 9-ranked Wildcats this season, was recognized for his scholastic efforts after posting a 3.43 cumulative GPA in his major of engineering management. Meloan is the first Arizona baseball player to be recognized with academic all-district honors since former Wildcat Chris Goodman in 2002.
Meloan will be the starter in the series opener for Arizona in its key match-up with Arizona State in Tempe on Saturday.
