WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ?- Arizona junior Brad Boyer has been named the May 24 Pac-10 Player of the Week, commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. The honor is the first for Boyer in his three-year career at UA and marks the seventh Wildcat recognized by the conference office in 2005 alone.
Boyer helped lead Arizona to its third straight season series victory over Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif., last weekend. The Wildcat infielder batted .429 (6 for 14) with a double, two runs scored and a team-high seven RBI in the key Pac-10 series. In Friday's series-opening 9-4 victory, Boyer went 2 for 5 with two RBI and a run scored. He finished 3 for 5 with a double, a game-high four RBI and a run scored in the series-clinching 11-8 win on Sunday.
He collected at least one hit in all three contests over the weekend to extend his hitting streak to a season-best 12-straight games. During his hitting streak, Boyer is batting a .446 (25 for 56) with five doubles, three triples, 17 RBI and 14 runs scored. His hitting streak has raised his season average 53 points from .230 to its current .283 level.
