LAS CRUCES, N.M. ?- The Arizona women's golf team slipped into a tie for 14th with Northwestern on Friday at the NCAA West Regional in Las Cruces, N.M.
The Wildcats shot a 26-over-par 314 in the second round, for a two day total of 617 (+41). Arizona trails tournament leader Southern California by 22 strokes. Tennessee shot 25-over-par 601 to stand in second, and Georgia is in third with a two day score of 602 (+26). California, BYU and UCLA are all tied for fourth place after carding 27-over-par 603.
Individually, junior Lani Elston leads the Wildcats by finishing the second round tied for 24th place. Elston carded a 74 (+2) in the second round, for a two day total of seven-over-par 151.
Senior Mar Garcia and junior Cassandra Kirkland are both tied for 55th with the score of 155 (+11). Junior Whitney Welch is in a tie for 63rd with a two day total of 12-over-par 156. Senior Miriam Kraschinski is tied for 87th after carding 16-over-par 160.
The Wildcats will tee off tomorrow morning at 10:50 a.m. (PST) in the final round. The tournament is being held at New Mexico State University Golf Course which is Par 72, over a 6,139-yard layout. The top eight teams advance to the National Championship held May 17-20 in Sunriver, Ore.
