OKLAHOMA CITY--Moments after Arizona's first-round loss to Tennessee in the Women's College World Series, three Wildcats joined 51 other top players from around the nation in being announced as 2005 NFCA All-Americans.
Sophomore centerfielder Caitlin Lowe and sophomore shortstop Kristie Fox earned first-team honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, while junior pitcher Alicia Hollowell was named to the second team.
Lowe is a repeat first-team selection, Hollowell followed two first-team picks with the second-team selection and Fox earned her first honor. She was chosen as an at-large selection, regardless of position.
The citations give Arizona a total of 73 All-Americans since 1984 when infielder Karen Fellenz earned first-team honors under then Coach Paula Noel. All the rest have come under Coach Mike Candrea since then, including a nation-best 50 first-team selections.
Hollowell became the 13th Wildcat to earn a third All-America honor. Two players were four-time All-Americans -- catcher Leah Braatz earned four first-team selections and first baseman Amy Chellevold (Hillenbrand) earned two first-team picks and a second- and third-team honor.
Others with three All-America honors include Jennie Finch (all 1st), Lauren Bauer, Toni Mascarenas, Nicole Giordano, Leah O'Brien Amico (all 1st), Alison Johnsen McCutcheon (all 1st), Leticia Pineda (all 1st), Jenny Dalton (all 1st), Laura Espinoza and Susie Parra.
